And the Winner is Me???

I have had a great week!!

First on Wednesday I was selected as one of the winners of the Christmas Quilt Show (http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com/2010/11/christmas-quilt-show-winners.html).  I will be receiving a quilting tool.

Then later that same day I was selected as 1 of 10 people who had a chance to win a $250 gift card at Quilts and Sew Forth's grand re-opening.  I arrived there on Friday morning bright and early at 8:30 a.m.  I was the second to draw a key, but the next person drew the winning key to open the door!  The remaining 9 of us received a bag with some quilt goodies inside.

On Friday night I made my chili for the Chili Cook Off competition at the 10th Annual Ohio State vs. That Team Up North party in Ohio City.  I entered my Tressel's Terrific Chili into the competion with 9 other chili's.  About 100 of us formed the Script Ohio out in the street and then entered the 2 tents to watch the Buckeyes take on that Team from Up North.  As we watched our Buckeyes beat up on those Wolverines the winners of the Chili Cook Off were announced, and I won Runner Up!!!  I was really excited, of course it may have been the Long Island Ice Tea's also!!  Then my Buckeyes won the game 37-7 it helped to finish off a great day!!

Colorful Friday!!

Quilts & Sew Forth recently moved to a new location.  To celebrate their new opening anyone that spent $25 got a ticket to enter in drawing to be 1 of 10 people that could win a $250 gift card.  I had 2 tickets in the drawing and I was selected as 1 of the 10!!!  I was pretty excited and showed up at the store this moring at 8:30 a.m. to try and win.  I was second to pick my key, but the third lady picked the winning key.  She was pretty excited.  The other 9 each received a goody bag.  I hit the 40% off area and added to my stash.

Then I stopped at JoAnn's to buy some cording to use in a couple purses I will be making.

From there I went to Mara's Fabric and Gifts she had Moda's Northwood's Botanical on sale and I needed some for the backing and binding of my Simple Star wallhanging and Train to Grandma's

She has also added a lot to her clearance area.  I purchased 3 Robert Kaufman Fusion's for $4 a yard!!

I hope you have a very Colorful Friday!!

I need your Votes for Turkey outside my Window

I have entered another quilt in the Weekly Themed Quilt Contest.  This time it is one of my husbands favorites.  This quilt started out as an apron panel, it was then cut up and pieced using the Attic Window pattern. My husband Jim thinks its neat how it appears you are looking out the window into the backyard. I pieced it in 1993 and finally quilted it in 2007.

At one point today I was actually in the lead so please help me out!!

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Birthday Marvin!!

My dear husband Jim and I spent yesterday with his family celebrating Thanksgiving and Jim's dads 80th Birthday!!

Marvin

It was great seeing everyone and catching up even if it was only for a few hours.  Jim's youngest brother John is a great chef and treated us to a wonderful meal and even better leftovers!!

Christmas Quilt Show entry

SewCal Gal is sponsoring a Christmas Quilt Show check out all the great quilts.

I purchased 12 FQ's at Cottonpickers Quilt Shop of the new Moda Northwoods Botanical from Holly Taylor. Using that fabric I designed my second EQ7 quilt, it's a smaller version of Simple Star Pattern by Paula Barnes available at Bonnie Blue Quilts.

Cottonpickers Quilt Shop has the full size version of this quilt.  I decided to downsize the quilt to 3" half square triangles, so it finished at 33" by 33".  I made up my Simple Star Wallhanging, and then completed my Christmas Train to Grandma's. Each block is 8" by 8" and the finished quilt will be 44" by 60".

The remaining pieces were made into the sides for my Christmas Tote.

Each side is 15" by 15"

I purchased some additional yardage to complete the borders, bindings and backings.

I hope you enjoyed my entries in the 2010 Christmas Quilt Show!!

Darlene's Quilt Show Day 1

Last Friday I had my friend Leita over for lunch and to show her the quilts I have worked on in the last 3.5 years since I started quilting again.  I'm going to have a number of posts that tell the story behind the 20 quilts that I have had longarmed and the quilt tops that are waiting to be quilted.

Leita helped me to get started quilting 20 years ago by opening The Country Hutch on Main Street in Geneva, Ohio.  I was working 4 - 10 hour days at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant at the time, so I was able to join the Lake Shore Quilters which met at the Country Hutch on Mondays.

I was one of the younger members, so it was a great learning experience.  The quilts and projects that those ladies made and are still making really impressed me.

One of the quilts that I have worked is the Friendship Block quilt that these ladies helped me make.  The setting I choose ended up making the quilt 108" by 108".  It will take a while for me to get the binding done on this one!

Doris and Norma were nice enough hold up the quilt top so I could get a picture.  I'm glad I have this picture because Doris passed away this summer.

After I picked up the quilt from Jennifer McCann, another friend named Doris let me spread it out on her King size bed.  I'm going to need a big wall to display this one when it's done!!!

I hope you will enjoy reading about the quilts in Darlene's Quilt Show!!
